Undergraduate Studies
Mathematics
Saint Mary's students have the option to major in Mathematics through the Science degree program (B.Sc.) or the Arts degree program (B.A.). The Math program requirements are the same for both degrees. However, the required and elective courses in Science, Arts, Commerce, and the Humanities are different for each degree, as outlined in Saint Mary's Academic Calendar.
Computing Science (Including Computing Science and Business Administration)
Students can obtain a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science in one of two possible ways. A traditional degree in Computing Science involving an emphasis in Mathematics is offered as a Minor, Concentration, Major, or Honours. Alternatively, students interested in applying the technical aspects of Computing Science to business can obtain a major in Computing Science and Business Administration. Both of these Computing Science options have a Co-op option.
The Major and Honours programs in computing science are accredited by the Computer Science Accreditation Council of the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS). Not only is this an assurance of program quality, but it also allows students to earn the Information Systems Professional (ISP) designation in less time.
Graduate Studies
Master of Science in Applied Science
Through our Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research students can pursue a Master of Science in Applied Science with a specialization in Mathematics or Computing Science. The MSc in Applied Science Program is a research thesis-oriented, multidisciplinary degree program. The Program has a Cooperative Education Option which provides students practical work experience during 2 semesters of their Programs. Graduates from the Program have continued into PhD programs in the applied or basic sciences, and scientific and technical career positions in the government, private and educational sectors.
For Teachers
Certificate in the Mathematical Sciences for Education
This certificate is intended for high school teachers and junior high school teachers, who wish to improve their mathematical background. It is approved for teaching licence upgrading in Nova Scotia by the Minister's Advisory Committee on Teacher Certification.
