Community Service Learning (CSL) brings students, faculty and community organizations together to address community-identified needs and initiatives through collaborative projects. By connecting academic learning with community engagement, CSL fosters social responsibility, strengthens communities and contributes to positive societal change.

Through CSL, students apply their course learning to experiential learning activities that support local organizations, while building skills, relationships and a stronger, more equitable society. Community partners play a vital role as co-educators, sharing their knowledge and expertise to enrich student learning. Working alongside faculty, the CSL office creates opportunities for deeper learning and reflection, while community partners benefit from fresh perspectives and additional support for their work.

Whether you’re a student, faculty member or community partner, CSL offers meaningful ways to connect, contribute and create positive change. Explore our resources or contact service.learning@smu.ca to learn more about how we can work together.
